WHERE WILL I BE WORKING AND FOR WHOM?

          When work becomes available you will be employed by a contractor signatory to an Agreement with Plumbers and Pipefitters LU 372.  LU 372’s work jurisdiction is the following counties; Bibb, Choctaw, Fayette, Green, Hale, Lamar, Marengo, Perry, Sumter and Tuscaloosa.  You are required to work 8 hours per day, five days a week, usually between the hours of 6 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.  You will need reliable transportation to get to and from the job site.

 

WHO WILL PLACE ME ON THE JOB SITE?

          The Business Manager.

 

WHAT TYPE OF WORK WILL I BE PERFORMING?

          Plumber and Pipefitter Apprentices and Journeymen install piping in buildings, industry, schools, hospitals, etc.  Additionally they install and service heating and cooling systems and do their own control work.  They also do their own welding.  A Plumber/Pipefitter also installs and repairs pipe, fittings and fixtures of hot and cold water, vacuum, oxygen, gas and drainage systems.  They also do the layout of piping and pipe connections.  They cut and thread pipe using pipe cutters, cutting torch and pipe threading machines.

 

WHO SPONSERS THE PROGRAM

           Plumbers and Pipefitters LU 372 membership and the Mechanical Contractors signatory to LU 372.

 

WHAT DOES IT COST TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM?

There is NO cost to participate if selected for the program, other than purchase of books, supplies and any license fee.  The cost of the program is covered by the training fund.  You are required to pay union dues once you have been initiated into the union.

 

WHERE WILL I ATTEND CLASSES?

          You will attend classes at the LU 372 Apprenticeship Training Facility that is overseen by the Tuscaloosa Joint Apprentice Committee.  The Training Center is located at

9410 Hwy 82 East, Duncanville, AL 35456.

 

HOW MANY EVENINGS PER WEEK AND AT WHAT TIMES?

          Two, which are held either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday between the hours of 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.  You may be required to attend a few Saturday classes depending on what is being taught.

 

WHEN DO CLASSES BEGIN?

          Classes begin late August and go through May the following year.  Basically like the local school Systems.
